Summit deputies seize truck load of bogus Nike, Gucci, Louis Vuitton goods

Summit County sheriff’s deputies and state authorities have arrested five business owners accused of selling counterfeit clothing, athletic shoes and handbags out of their Akron stores.

Sheriff’s Inspector Bill Holland said a “truckload” of counterfeit Nike shoes, Roca clothing and Gucci and Louis Vuitton purses were seized during a raid in February at the A-1 Market on East Avenue, the Kenmore Sunrise Market on Kenmore Boulevard and at A-1 Wireless and Fashion on South Arlington Street.

A Summit County grand jury has now indicted the store owners. Charged with engaging in a pattern of corrupt activity and trademark counterfeiting are: Amireh Tawil, 68, Maged Ismail, 47, Mashhour Tawil, 41, all of Green, Mohammad Abdel Rahman Ayyd, 33, of Columbus and Agil Sawalma, 52, of Barberton.

The owners are accused of acquiring the fake products and selling them at prices far below the regular retail price of authentic items.

Holland said the merchandise is being held in a Columbus-are storage facility until it is used in future court procedings.
